West Cork based Carbery Group has announced the appointment of Donal Tobin, a dairy farmer from Rosscarbery, as chairman to the board.

Tobin has been chairman of his local co-op Lisavaird since 2008, vice-chair of Carbery Group since 2011 and chair of the company’s audit committee.  He has taken over from Derry Connolly, and will support the management team in delivering its strategy and vision.

Commenting on his new role, Tobin said, “I was delighted to accept the appointment and look forward to seeing Carbery Group continue its growth phase.  We are committed to paying a leading milk price and are currently ensuring we are well prepared for 2015 and the abolition of milk quotas.  This will guarantee that we provide a top quality product, produced to the highest standards from a pasture based sustainable system”.

Dan McSweeney, CEO of Carbery Group said: “Donal has a wealth of experience and expertise which will enable Carbery Group to develop further in the years ahead, building on the very solid foundation which has been laid for the organisation by outgoing Chairman Derry Connolly. His previous experience as a vice-chairman of Carbery and Chairman of Lisavaird will stand to him in this new role and the management team look forward to working with him.”

Tobin has a diploma in dairy herd management and company corporate governance and a keen interest in GAA and rowing. He is married to Marie and has four children.
