The recent mild weather is set to continue, but periods of heavy rain are expected later in the week, according to Met Eireann.

Today, Monday, is forecast to be dry and bright; spells of hazy sunshine and some cloudy periods are also likely to develop.

It is set to turn mild by the early afternoon, with top temperatures ranging from 11 to 17 degrees.

Highest temperatures are most likely in Atlantic coastal counties. Moderate easterly winds are expected to be fresh and gusty along the south and southwest coasts.

It is forecast to be dry early tonight; misty conditions are set to develop, with the mist thickening into fog.

The northern half of the country is likely to be the worst hit by these misty and foggy conditions.

Some showery outbreaks of rain are set to develop over south Munster around midnight; these showers are expected to edge northwards later in the night.

It is expected to be cold over Ulster for a time, with temperatures dropping to 2 or 3 degrees. But values across the country by dawn are likely to reach between 5 and 9 degrees.

Field conditions are set to remain quite good over the coming days, according to Met Eireann.

Tomorrow

A few bright or short sunny spells are forecast tomorrow, Tuesday, but some rather cloudy conditions are also likely to develop.

Some showers of rain are also set to fall; some heavy or possibly thundery bursts are likely in places in the afternoon and evening.

Top temperatures are expected to reach between 11 and 15 degrees, in light to moderate southeasterly breezes.

Tomorrow night is forecast to be largely dry, but some scattered outbreaks of rain are set to fall later in the night. Some patches of hill and coastal fog are also likely.

Temperatures are set to drop to between 3 and 7 degrees; it will be coolest across Ulster, where it should remain mostly dry.

Wednesday

It is set to be rather cloudy and breezy with scattered outbreaks of rain on Wednesday.

Windows of mild sunshine are forecast throughout the day, especially across the central belt of the country, according to Met Eireann.

In a freshening southerly wind, temperatures are expected to reach close to 16 degrees.

Thursday

Another mild, humid and breezy day, with further scattered outbreaks of rain, is expected on Thursday.

There is a danger that rain may turn very heavy and persistent later, with the risk of spot flooding in places.

Temperatures are set to reach close to 15 degrees on Thursday; highest temperatures are forecast across the northern half of the country.

Friday

It is not expected to be quite as mild on Friday, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 15 degrees, according to Met Eireann.

Another breezy day with scattered outbreaks of rain, most of it showing up across Atlantic counties, in a fresh south to southwest flow is forecast.

Next Weekend

Early indications suggest that next weekend will probably be a bit fresher with scattered showers. It is likely to be milder again on Sunday, but with misty drizzle closer to the Atlantic.
