Met Éireann

Met Éireann has said that the majority of the country will see below average rainfall over the coming week with between 3 and 10 mm (10 to 60%).

Rainfall amounts along the west coast will be higher with up to 26mm expected in western parts of Co. Mayo.

There will be below average temperatures today, but values are set to increase countrywide to closer to normal over the weekend.

Air temperatures will average around 14° or 15° over the next seven days, which is above average for this time of year by up to 2°. Soil temperatures will remain above normal.

Rain will lead to poor drying conditions over the weekend, particularly in the northern half of the country.

Conditions will improve early next week as high pressure builds and temperatures increase.

Spraying conditions will be best early today as the winds ease and showers die out, then again after Saturday when the weather is expected to become settled.

Met Éireann said that soil moisture deficits (SMDs) for much of the country are currently between 0 and 10mm in the northwest. They range from 10 to 50 mm further south with the driest soils in south Leinster.

More frequent rain and showers in the coming week will result in a deterioration in soil conditions, especially in the west and north. However, soil conditions will improve early next week.
