Golden Vale Marts held its weekly young stock sale in Carrigallen Mart, Co. Leitrim, on Saturday (August 15), as a 290kg Charolais-cross weanling bull sold for €2,000 at €6.90/kg.
The mart saw 437 animals through the ring in total, with an 86% clearance rate.
There were 214 weanling bulls and 76 weanling heifers in the sale.
Charolais bull calves ranged from €670-€1,300/head while Charolais heifers sold from €590-€1,110/head.
Limousin bull calves went for between €380-€1,100/head while Limousin heifer calves ranged from €550-€1,010/head.
Hereford bull calves sold from €200-€680/head while Hereford heifer calves sold from €160-€440/head.
Angus heifer calves ranged from €260-€990/head, while Angus bull calves fetched from €280-€660/head.
Commenting on the sale in a report seen by Agriland, Carrigallen Mart manager Helen Kells noted that it was a "very lively trade" with some "exceptional quality bulls".
The standout sale was the 290kg Charolais-cross weanling bull sold for €2,000.
Other impressive sales include a 265kg Belgian Blue-cross bull that sold for €1,660 at €6.26/kg, and a 290kg Limousin-cross Bull that sold for €1,820 at €6.28/kg.

The weanling heifer trade also saw some high prices, with a 394kg Belgian Blue-cross heifer selling for €2,580 at €6.55/kg.
Another 370kg Belgian Blue-cross heifer made €2,300 at €6.22/kg.
A 328kg Charolais-cross heifer sold for €1,960 made €5.98/kg, while another 290kg Charolais-cross heifer sold for €1,620 at €5.59/kg.
A 266kg Limousin-cross heifer sold for €1,520 at €5.71/kg.
Commenting on the demand ringside, Kells added that there was strong export demand and an active farmer trade.
Carrigallen Mart will hold its special weanling sale on September 12.
