Kilkenny Mart hosted its weekly general cattle sale on Thursday (October 1), with approximately 1,310 cattle on offer.
Auctioneer George Candler said that there was a bigger sale of cattle on offer in the most recent sale "with a good solid trade from start to finish".
There was 99% clearance of the cattle on offer in the sale.
Candler noted that the turnover from the sale was "just shy" of €2.5 million, which he said is "the largest recorded on one day's trading at Kilkenny Mart".
Heavy bullocks over 600kg averaged €3.75/kg or €2,525 per head in Thursday's sale.
Two 705kg Limousin bullocks went for €2,930/head, or €4.16/kg.
Some sample prices from the sale include:
Beef heifers ranged from €3.20-€4.58/kg or €1,900-€2,640 per head.
Two 585kg Limousin heifers made €2,640 per head, or €4.51/kg.
500-600kg bullocks averaged €3.90/kg or €2,102 per head, down 20c on average on last week's rates.
One lot of seven Charolais bullocks withing 570kg on average went for €2,570/head, or €4.51/kg.
Other notable prices from the sale include:
Bullocks in the 400-500kg category ranged from €3.05-€5.15/kg or €1,280-€2,360 per head, while while bullocks under 400kg ranged from €3.00-€5.45/kg or €890-€2,160 per head.
The standout sale in the under 400kg category was for four Charolais bullocks weighing 395kg on average that went for €2,160/head, or €5.47/kg.
The Friesian cull cows in the sale ranged in price from €1.50-€3.20/kg, while beef breed cows ranged from €3.20-€4.00/kg.
