Clare Co-Operative Marts held its weanling sale on Tuesday (November 3) in Ennis Mart, Co. Clare with over 800 cattle on offer.

Mart manager Martin McNamara said that trade for bull weanlings over 300kg was "similar to last week".

The mart manager also noted that weanling bulls under 300kg were 8c/kg dearer than previous weeks, attributing this increase to "more farmers about this week".

Sample of weanling bull prices at Ennis Mart:

A Limousin bull weighing 250kg sold for €1,760, or €7.04/kg;
Three Charolais bulls weighing 425kg on average sold for €2,500, or €5.88/kg;
Two Angus bulls weighing 410kg sold for €1,600 each, or €3.90/kg;
A Charolais bull weighing 360kg sold for €2,260, or €6.27/kg;
A Limousin bull weighing 425kg sold for €2,250, or €5.29/kg.

McNamara said that weanling heifers up to 400kg saw a 10c/kg price rise, while heifers over this weight saw a trade similar to last week.

A Limousin heifer weighing 340kg sold for €2,160, or €6.35/kg;
A Saler heifer weighing 325kg sold for €1,960, or €6.03/kg;
A pen of four Charolais heifers weighing 277kg on average sold for €1,440/head, or €5.19/kg;
A Limousin heifer weighing 410kg sold for €1,870, or €4.56/kg;
Two Charolais heifers weighing 360kg each sold for €1,880 each, or €5.22/kg.

In the suckler ring, cows with calves at foot made as much as €3,080, while in-calf cattle hit €2,900.

Organic stock

A strong entry of organic cattle saw an average price of €3.57/kg obtained for stronger Angus bullocks.

Four Charolais heifers weighing 336kg on average sold for €1,340, or €4.00/kg;

Two Hereford heifers weighing 210kg each sold for €900 or €4.29/kg.
