Fine Gael MEP Colm Markey will host a public meeting next week in Co. Kildare to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the agriculture sector.

He will host the meeting with Minister of State Martin Heydon TD at the Fine Gael national agriculture, food, and rural development forum.

The meeting will be an opportunity for the public to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

It will also provide a platform for rural communities and agricultural stakeholders to engage directly with elected representatives.

It will be held at the Clanard Hotel in Athy, Co. Kildare on Monday, February 26 at 8:00p.m.

Also speaking at the meeting will be Padraig Hennessy, chief executive of Terra Nutritech and chair of AgTech Ireland, along with the chair of the Fine Gael national agricultural and rural development forum Eddie Downey and Teagasc sustainability advisor Fiona Doolin.

The meeting will give members with an interest in agricultural and rural affairs the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers and to put forward their views.

Later next week, Markey will also host an event titled, ‘Farm to Fuel – The Biogas Opportunity: How farming in the Midlands can help drive EU decarbonisation’.

This event will be held on Thursday, February 29 at 10:00a.m at the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

This event will focus on the production of biogas from a wide variety of feedstocks including slurries, residues and silage as a renewable fuel to de-carbonise our heat, transport and electricity sectors.

This informative and collaborative event will be of interest to biogas producers including farmers and also to energy users, the business community and the general public.

An expert panel will share its insights and knowledge and this event will also feature a broad ranging discussion to explore the opportunities and potential for the sector as a renewable source of energy in Ireland.
