Conahy Vintage Club, Co. Kilkenny - renowned for its success at Durrow Scarecrow Festival over the years - will host the Johnny Dooley memorial tractor and truck run on Saturday, September 7.
The proceeds will go to Cois Nore cancer support service and the Carlow Kilkenny home care team.
Registration for the Johnny Dooley memorial run will take place on the day from 1:00p.m. The run will get underway at 3:00p.m from Kilkenny Block Company, Inchmore, Freshford.
Michael Bergin of Conahy Vintage Club said that the event is a one-off to honour the memory of their good friend, the late Johnny Dooley, who died last year after a short illness.
He was an avid member of the club and an enthusiastic vintage ploughman.
As well as being a member of Conahy Vintage Club, he was involved with Johnstown Vintage Ploughing Association.
"He was a very humorous character and is sadly missed by the club," said Bergin.
The club has stolen the show at many Durrow Scarecrow festivals over the years, and has won a prize every year since it entered.
This year the club was victorious in the most humorous category for its 'back to the future' entry.
Past exhibits have included: a dinosaur; Noah's Ark; King Kong; a 'popemobile', a recreation of the famous icy Cody/Shefflin handshake between the two managers after Galway's defeat of Kilkenny at the Leinster hurling final, and a depiction of a speed van.
The 30 members meet throughout the year and go on trips. The gatherings provide an important social outlet and sense of camaraderie, said Michael who has run vintage days on his farm.
"Anybody is welcome to join our club. We are always looking for new members. You don't have to be vintage mad, just have a good sense of humour. It's a social gathering," he added.
