If you’re a farmer in Ireland this week then summer is officially here as silage 2016 has arrived.
Tractors with mowers and balers were seen in fields across the country this week, as the country basked in a a few days of warm and dry weather – ideal for silage.
Maeve Regan tweeted this great shot of the silage season kicking off in Co. Meath.
Caroline O’Donovan tweeted that silage is on the ground in Timoleague and in Clonakilty.
William Truesdale, a farmer in Northern Ireland, shared this great shot on Instagram of his Massey Ferguson in the field with the Mourne Mountains in the background.
Greenhills Farm, based in Killeagh, Co Cork, shared these two photos of mowing underway on the farm.
Silage 2016 is also underway on farms in the UK, with Henry Saunders, Agricultural Contractors working within Bedfordshire, tweeting this photo of the first bale of the year.
