The Irish Moiled Cattle Society is preparing to hold an “online timed auction” which will include animals from “top herds” across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Britain later this month.

The sale will be conducted by Harrison & Hetherington, Farmstock Auctioneers, Carlisle.

The “Magnificent Moilies Online Timed Auction” will take place from 12:00pm on Thursday, September 24.

It will last for 48 hours, concluding at 12:00pm on Saturday, September 26.

According to the society, there will be “over 30 lots up for auction from some of the top herds of Irish Moileds from all three constituencies”, namely the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Britain.

Photos, videos and details of the Irish Moiled exhibits entered in catalogue will shortly be on view on the Harrison & Hetherington website, the society confirmed.

The average age of animals to be sold on the day ranges from 12 to 18 months.

“All online entries are available to view by appointment. It is recommended you contact the individual vendor before the sale,” the Irish Moiled Cattle Society concluded.

Irish Moiled cattle

The Irish Moiled cattle, according to the society, are a hornless polled breed, red in colour and characteristically marked by a white line or ‘finching’ on the back and white under parts with red ears and red nose.

However, they can vary from white with red ears and nose to nearly all red. The face is often roan or flecked.

They are of medium size and are generally easy to handle with a placid docile temperament, the society says.
