Heifers make up to €4,750 at Lisduff sale

The renowned pedigree registered Lisduff Holstein herd out of Whitechurch in Co. Cork held its annual autumn sale in Corrin Mart, Co. Cork during the week.

The herd delivered 656kg/milk solids (MS) at 4.53% fat and 3.66% protein to the co-op in 2025.

On the day, there was 40 freshly calved heifers, 40 in-calf heifers due to calve down in January/February, and 30 heifer calves up for grabs.

Lisduff Sale

A top price of €4,750 was achieved during the sale, given for Lisduff Leslie 797.

The September 2024 born heifer has an economic breeding index (EBI) of €117.

Her milk traits are broken into 259kg milk, 17.48kg fat, and 11.38kg protein.

Sired by Pine-Tree Wim Ward-Et (FR8526) and out of Lisduff Leslie 347 VG86, the heifer is backed by 10 generations of VG and EX classified cows.

Her dam produced 10,034kg of milk at 4.12% fat and 3.68% protein in the year she was born (fourth lactation), equating to 784kg of milk solids.

The full pedigree heifer calved down for the first time on September 1.

Lisduff Raven 115 ET was the next best seller, going under the hammer for €4,500.

She was sired by Pine-Tree Wim Ward-Et (FR8526) and came from Lisduff Raven 80 VG86 in September 2024.

Her dam is projected to produce 7,316kg of milk at 4.69% fat and 3.59% protein in her second lactation this year, equating to 606kg milk solid.

Lisduff Raven 115 ET is backed by six generations of VG and EX dams, and has an EBI of €178.

Her milk traits are as follows, 298kg of milk, 19.57kg of fat, and 12.78kg of protein.

She calved down in early September to Lisduff Raven 147, who also sold on the day for €1,080.

Lisduff Leslie 825 ET was the third high of the day, making €4,350 in the ring.

She too is a springer, having calved down in early September.

She has an EBI of €101, with her milk traits broken into 311kg of milk, 14.97kg of fat, and 10.95kg of protein.

The heifer was sired by Progenesis Napavalley (FR7824) and came from Lisduff Leslie 554 VG86 in September 2024.

Her dam produced 8,100kh of milk at 4.85% and 3.54% protein in her second lactation last year, equating to 679kg of milk solids.

The heifer is backed by 11 generations of VG and EX cows.

Her calf, Lisduff Leslie 961, was sired by Beyond Sear Frosky and sold for €1,140.

In total, 11 out of the 40 freshly calved heifers reached the €4,000 mark or above on the day.

The full group of freshly calved heifers averaged €3,660/head, showing there is a strong appetite for high quality pedigrees ready to get milking.

Heifer calves averaged €997/head on the day, they are all September born.

Lisduff Lenora 252 was the best selling calve, grabbing €1,340 in the ring.

She was born September 3 from Lisduff Lenora 227, and was sired by Beyond Sear Frosky.
