Met Éireann is predicting further unsettled weather for the week head, with mild conditions at first but turning cooler from midweek.

Cloud will thicken this morning (Monday, November 16), with patchy rain and drizzle increasing from the southwest through the day. It will be coolest through the morning, becoming noticeably milder through the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures today will be 11° to 14° as southwesterly winds increase fresh to strong, maintaining an ongoing risk of coastal flooding.

Tonight will be humid with patchy rain or drizzle at times, mainly along Atlantic coasts. Lowest temperature will be 10° to 12° while southwest winds will remain mostly fresh with some mist and low cloud, especially on higher ground.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, November 17) will be a mild and murky day as it remains mostly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle at times, especially along western fringes. Highest temperatures will be in the range of 12° to 15°. However, it will remain blustery throughout the day in mostly fresh southerly breezes.

On Tuesday night, rain in the west will spread eastwards across the country. It will be heaviest and most persistent over the western half of the country, bringing a risk of localised flooding.

There will be a mild start to the night, but it will become cooler from the west with lowest temperatures of 7° to 12° occurring around dawn. It will be quite breezy to start, with moderate to fresh south winds, strong on coasts, but they will veer west and ease light to moderate overnight.

On Wednesday (November 18), rain will clear eastwards through the morning and afternoon, with sunny spells developing. However, showers will follow from the west with the potential for some heavy falls, particularly over the western half of the country.

It will turn cool from the west through the morning with highest afternoon temperatures of 7° to 10° in moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong in coastal areas.

Scattered showers will persist through Wednesday night but will become more confined to the north and west as the night progresses. Lowest nighttime temperatures will be 2° to 5° in moderate to fresh northwest winds.

Thursday (November 19) will be a cool day but largely dry and bright over much of the country as lingering showers ease through the morning. However, cloud will thicken from the west through the afternoon and evening, with rain and drizzle pushing into western areas from the Atlantic during the evening. Highest temperatures should be 6° to 9° in light westerly breezes, veering southerly later.

Rain will extend eastwards across the country on Thursday night, persistent and heavy at times in the west but patchier elsewhere. Lowest temperatures will be in the range of  3° to 6° occurring early in the night but becoming milder overnight.

Current indications for Friday (November 20) are that rain will persist in most areas during Friday morning but will clear northeastwards during the afternoon. However, patchy drizzle and mist will linger in places through the day. Highest temperatures are expected to range from 10° to 12° in moderate southwest breezes.

Over the coming days, spraying conditions are expected to be limited due to breezy conditions over the next several days.

Well-drained soils remain saturated countrywide with moderately and poorly drained soils waterlogged. With up to twice the average rainfall expected in the coming week and limited drying opportunities, soil conditions are unlikely to improve. Poor field trafficability can be expected.
