ESB Networks is set to conduct a second inspection of electricity powerlines by helicopter on Friday (December 12).

Farmers across Ireland were notified of this inspection earlier this month via a leaflet from ESB Networks.

The first electricity powerline inspection took place on Monday (November 17).

Farmers were advised in the notice that information regarding the inspection can be obtained on the Irish Helicopters website.

In a statement to Agriland, ESB Networks said: “ESB Networks conduct scheduled helicopter patrols as part of our ongoing maintenance and safety programme.

“Farmers are notified in advance to minimise any potential disruption.”

ESB Networks outlined that while no specific action is required, it advises farmers that they may want to temporarily move livestock from in fields crossed by high voltage overhead powerlines before the inspection on Friday, as "helicopters can occasionally startle animals."

Separately, Storm Claudia left almost 5,000 homes, farms and businesses across the country without power on Saturday (November 15), according to ESB Networks.

The Status Yellow winds associated with the storm resulted in some power outages, predominantly in the south of the country.

A spokesperson for ESB Networks said that the impact on the electricity network was “modest and in line with previous such wind warning”.

ESB Networks apologised to all homes, farms and businesses impacted for the inconvenience caused by the power outages.

The electricity supplier also reminded members of the public that if they come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, to never, ever touch or approach these as they are live and extremely dangerous.

Any damage to electricity infrastructure at any time can be reported to ESB Networks by calling its emergency line on 1800 372 999.
