The Teagasc Crops Forum will continue online tomorrow night (September 17). This week’s focus is on policy and challenges coming down the tracks for the tillage sector.

The first topic up for discussion is the Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy. A representative from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine will make a presentation and hopefully give some indication of what might be involved in these new plans and give tillage farmers a chance to listen to suggestions and make some of their own.

Prof. Michael Wallace of University College Dublin (UCD) will then make a presentation on the economic impact of the tillage sector on the Irish economy.

The chairperson of the Teagasc Tillage Stakeholders Group Donal Fitzgerald will make the final presentation of the evening when he speaks on the Crops 2030 report which was published last month.

As was the case last week there will be an opportunity for viewers to send in questions and time will be given to discuss these questions once the speakers have finished.

Last week’s forum covered winter cereal varieties, barley yellow dwarf tolerance and management, as well as keeping a stable income on tillage farms.

The event will be held from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and anyone wishing to log in should register on the Teagasc website.
