Raising funds for the Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre in Thurles, the 5th annual Borrisoleigh tractor run will take place on Sunday, February 2.
The event, which has grown in popularity over the years, aims to produce yet another spectacle of fun and entertainment for all the family.
Since its initiation, the run has raised a significant sum of money for local and international charities, and it is hoped that this year’s event will continue the effort.
Over the years, the run has expanded to include vehicles other than tractors, and last year saw a marked increase in the number of vintage cars, vans and jeeps, as well as a number of modern trucks lined up, according to Andrew Ryan of the organising committee.
"This all adds to the broad appeal of the event, so we hope to see a similar variety this year," he said.
"We saw large numbers of people at the start of the run, and we were also struck by the number of people who turned out along the route.
"This year’s route is likely to be different from last year, and we encourage people to check out our Facebook page where details of this year's route will be posted," he added.
The run will boost the coffers of the Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre in Thurles. It provides support, help, information, and education to anyone with a cancer diagnosis, as well as their carers and family members.
It also offers counselling and a wide range of therapeutic courses free of charge.
"The centre is funded by the North Tipperary Hospice movement and relies heavily on charitable donations to continue to provide its invaluable service to the people of North Tipperary," Ryan continued.
"The Irish Cancer Society estimates that approximately 44,000 people in Ireland get cancer each year. Stark statistics such as this one shed more light on the huge importance that the role of charities like the Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre play in local communities."
Registration for the tractor run begins at 11:00a.m at Bishop Quinlan Park, Borrisoleigh (E41 FE03), with the run starting at 12:30p.m sharp.
Organisers have said that everyone is welcome - with or without a tractor - to enjoy the event and soak up the usual community spirit that surrounds the event.
