A third of Irish workers eat lunch at their desk while 17 per cent choose to eat out at serviced outlets such cafes, restaurants or pubs.

This is according to latest research from Bord Bia.

In addition it found that Ireland is a nation of sandwich lovers.

“More than 40 per cent of us opt for bread-based lunches. Key considerations when choosing lunch foods are control over budget, ingredients used and calories consumed,” according to Paula Donoghue of Bord Bia.

Bord Bia research also found that almost two thirds (57 per cent) of lunches consumed at work are brought from home.

“Just one-in-five lunches eaten in work are items that have been purchased locally and brought back,” the brand manager observed in its latest Food Alert.

More than 1,000 people took part in the survey, providing data on some 7,000 lunchtime occasions during the month of September this year.
