Airfield Estate is an educational charity and visitor attraction left in trust by the Overend family to the people of Ireland for recreation and education.
It is a working farm and gardens helping people to understand where their food comes from.
Set on 38ac beside Dundrum Shopping Centre in Dublin, the team is farming, growing food, educating, facilitating research, showcasing heritage and advocating for change.
It is also a social and charitable hub, investing in people and initiatives that reach every corner of our community.
Contributions help to maintain the diversity of the estate, while also helping to fund free school visits, research and community projects.
Recent developments at Airfield
Airfield Estate has just finished a new strategy that seeks to establish it as Dublin’s sustainable food hub and champion Dublin as a sustainable food city.
World of Soil has opened at the estate and is a new visitor experience that helps people understand why soil is so important.
There is also a Youth Board in place aimed at allowing Airfield champion the voice of young people.
The charity has been given land for a new community garden and Airfield is an accredited research institute.
Taster sessions
Airfield Estate is inviting businesses to explore the estate and discover how they can work with the charity which will benefit their CSR plans and will host ‘taster’ sessions for businesses next Monday, March 4.
Some of the ways business can work with Airfield Estate include:
- Volunteering – companies have the perfect opportunity to make a tangible impact, while getting hands dirty, from planting to harvesting;
- Sponsorship – By sponsoring an initiative, event or experience at Airfield, businesses can help to deliver impact in areas of education, sustainable food production, and biodiversity;
- Events and meetings – The estate is unique venue to host businesses meetings and events;
- Team building and ‘Away’ days – This could include a group cooking class in the Neff Inspiration Kitchen, or a talk, workshop or seminar on anything from sustainable diets to composting. There are also tours of the farm and gardens, axe throwing and sheep dog trials.
The ‘taster’ sessions will take place at Airfield Estate from 8:00a.m to 10:00a.m or 12:00p.m to 2:00p.m next Monday, March 4 and registration is required.
Appointment at Dublin’s sustainable food hub
Meanwhile, Airfield Estate has appointed Kate Milligan as its commercial director.
Her new role is expected to drive the financial sustainability of Airfield Estate. Her role will see her support the extended educational offering including the FarmerTime programme as well as developing social partnerships such as the estate’s new community garden.
From a farming background, and with a degree in agri-food production, marketing and management, Milligan has significant commercial experience within the FMCG (Fast-moving consumer goods) sector.
In addition to running an agri-food consultancy, she was a recent CEO of the Organic Trust.
