This week is set to be wet and windy, with some heavy showers and strong winds likely at times, according to Met Eireann.

Today, Monday, is expected to be generally cloudy and misty, with the possibility of a few bright spells during the course of the day.

Scattered showers of rain or drizzle are forecast, as patches of fog are also likely on exposed hills and coasts.

Top temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees are expected, but it may feel cooler as some blustery south to southwest winds develop.

Further rain, drizzle and fog are forecast tonight, with temperatures reaching 4 to 7 degrees overnight.

Some heavy showers of rain are set to affect some places, especially in eastern coastal counties, according to Met Eireann.

Both drying and spraying conditions are set to be fairly poor over the coming week, with blustery wet weather forecast on most days.

At present well drained soils are mostly trafficable, but poorly drained soils may become saturated or waterlogged this week.

Tomorrow

Further persistent and sometimes heavy rain is expected along the east coast tomorrow morning, Tuesday, but this rain is set to clear for the afternoon.

In other areas it is set to be a brighter day with sunny spells developing and just some sporadic showers forecast. Temperatures are set to reach 9 to 11 degrees in moderate southwest breezes.

Wednesday

On Wednesday many places are forecast to be dry at first but rain is set to develop in Munster and Connacht during the morning and extend countrywide by the afternoon.

It is expected to be fairly cool during the afternoon with highs of 7 to 10 degrees.

Heavy rain is forecast overnight, which will be accompanied by fresh to strong southwest winds.
