A group of farmers in Co. Wexford have organised a farm safety event which will be the first of its kind to take place in Ireland, according to one of the organisers George Graham.

The event will cover a wide range of topics including the dangers of working, living or visiting a farm from child safety, machinery and general health and safety.

Graham said there will be a number of life-like demonstrations and replicas on show to illustrate some of the key dangers on farms, including machinery and slurry safety.

The organisers say that this is an excellent opportunity to think about safety and to help protect children and adults from fatalities or from being seriously injured in a farm accident.

Creating safety awareness on farms has an important role to play in reducing the amount of accidents that occur each year, they say, as safety on farms is a major issue throughout Ireland.

The event will include demonstrations related to the prevention of all the major causes of farm accidents that commonly occur on Irish farms.

There will be a wide range of organisations talking about safety at this event, including the Health and Safety Authority, Embrace FARM, Teagasc, IFA, Samaritans and Aware.
