Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for 9 counties this week with gusts of up to 100kph expected in places.

Issued at 9:00am this morning (Monday, December 14), the alert will come into effect at 9:00pm tomorrow night. It will remain valid until 9:00am on Wednesday.

The warning will affect counties: Carlow; Kilkenny; Wexford; Wicklow; Cork; Kerry; Limerick; Tipperary; and Waterford.

In these counties, Met Éireann warns that southerly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65kph with gusts of up to 100kph.

There will be a risk of coastal flooding, the national meteorological office adds.

For the country in general, tomorrow night will be wet and windy. A low pressure system will move up from the south over the country bringing strong and gusty winds with gales on southern and eastern coasts, along with heavy rainfall throughout the country bringing a risk of coastal and surface flooding.

Lowest temperatures of 3° to 7° will occur early in the night.

Wednesday will be wet and windy to begin. Strong and gusty mainly southerly winds will veer southwesterly during the afternoon and gradually easing.

The rain will clear northeastwards with scattered showers feeding in from the Atlantic. Highest temperatures will be 8° to 11°.
