Macra has officially crowned Leitrim's Sinéad O'Reilly, and Wexford's Tom Devereux as the overall champions of the 18th Aurivo Northwest Kings and Queens competition.

At the Radisson hotel in Sligo, Macra put all 24 contestants through a full day of activities, such as a challenging game of "The Cube" at the Garavogue Bar, before they were interviewed live on stage by MC for the evening, local radio presenter, Dave Duke.

Donegal queen Jessica Wilson and Louth king Conor McEneaney finished in second place, with Cork's Zara Long and Longford's Matthew Keegan in third.

The judging panel was made up of Aurivo's brand development and marketing manager Caroline-Millar Price; Aurivo marketing executive Philip Hamilton; TV personality and Macra member Jamie Flannery; and MEP for the Midlands-North-West Maria Walsh.

Macra North-West vice president, Robert Lally, said the event was a "roaring success".

While congratulating the new king and queen, Lally said: "A true lady and a true gentleman worthy of the title, we wish you the best of luck over the coming year representing the event and Macra as a whole. We have no doubt you both will do us proud."

At the event, the winners of the Aurivo Macra Silage Competition were also announced. Donegal's Sarah Wilson was the outright winner, Cavan's Andrew Stafford in second, and Andrew McMenamin from Donegal in third place.

Samples were tested by Aurivo's lab team and the winners were selected on the basis of quality, intake potential, and indicators of fermentation. Philip Hamilton, marketing executive at Aurivo, presented the winners with their prizes.

Lally concluded: "To see all of our contestants show such character throughout the full day of activities, and the team mindset, was something really special. We saw our kings and queens make friends for life creating further bonds across our island of Ireland."
