Weather warnings issued for 12 counties on Sunday

Met Éireann has issued two separate weather warnings covering 12 counties that will come into effect on Sunday (February 23).

A Status Yellow wind and rain warning will come into effect from 2:00a.m Sunday morning, and will remain in place until 3:00p.m that afternoon.

This warning covers 12 counties: Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Wexford, and Wicklow.

Met Éireann is warning of very strong and gusty southerly winds, together with spells of heavy rain, in the impacted counties.

Potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, localised flooding, fallen trees, loose debris, and poor visibility.

At the same time that the first warning ends at 3:00p.m, a further Status Yellow warning will come into effect for wind.

This will be in effect until midnight on Sunday, and affects five counties (that are also affected by the earlier warning), namely Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

These counties will experience strong and gusty southwesterly winds, along with the potential for difficult travelling conditions and loose debris.

In general, the weather tomorrow (Saturday, February 22) will be a bright day with plenty of sunshine on offer and just a few passing showers, these mainly affecting the west and north-west.

Highest temperatures will range between 10° to 12° in light to moderate south-west winds.

Saturday night will start out largely dry with just isolated showers but cloud will thicken from the Atlantic and rain will push eastwards across the country overnight.
