The weather over the weekend will be very windy, and with plenty of rain as well, with Storm Kathleen to hit the country, according to Met Éireann.

The national forecaster has issued a Status Orange weather warning for five counties (originally it was issued for four), namely Cork, Kerry, Galway, Mayo and Waterford. The warning will be in place from 7:00a.m until 5:00p.m tomorrow (Saturday, April 6).

Met Éireann is predicting gale force southern winds, with some severe and damaging gusts that are likely to lead to very difficult travelling conditions, fallen trees, some power outages, coastal flooding, and wave overtopping.

Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow warning for strong winds for the entire country during tomorrow.

This warning, which applies to all counties, will be in place from 7:00a.m until 8:00p.m tomorrow.

Back to today (Friday, April 5), it will be a cloudy and rather blustery day with scattered showers throughout and fresh to strong southwesterly winds. Some sunny spells will develop this afternoon as the showers become more isolated. Highest temperatures will be 11° to 15°.

Isolated showers will slowly clear away but it will become rather overcast early this evening. Fresh southerly winds will strengthen as rain spreads over the country tonight, which will be heavy at times. Tonight will be mild, with lowest temperatures of 10° to 12° .

It will be very windy tomorrow morning as Storm Kathleen tracks north over the Atlantic coast. We will see very strong and gusty southerly winds, with severe gusts in exposed areas in the west from early in the morning.

Scattered showers will spread throughout the country before gradually easing later in the afternoon as Storm Kathleen moves off to the north. Highest temperatures will be 12° to 15°.

Tomorrow night will be very windy and unsettled with strong and gusty southerly winds, especially strong along western counites. Rain will affect western and southern counties while elsewhere will see a mix of cloud and outbreaks of rain. Lowest temperatures will be 6° to 8°.

Sunday (April 7) is set to be another very unsettled day with very strong southwest winds along western counties. It will be quite cloudy too with rain gradually spreading throughout the country during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures should be 11° to 13°.

Sunday night will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and southwesterly winds gradually weakening. Some clear spells will develop overnight but a band of more persistent rain will push in over southern counties before dawn. Lowest temperatures are expected to be 4° to 7°.

Monday (April 8) will see cloudy, blustery and very wet weather, with bands of heavy and persistent rain spreading through the country. Some heavy falls are expected with possibly spot flooding too. Highest temperatures will be 11° to 14°.
