Weather: Some rain but also plenty of dry spells this weekend

This weekend will see occasional rain but also plenty of dry weather as well, according to Met Éireann.

Today (Friday, March 28) will be cool and breezy with sunshine and fairly widespread showers developing this morning, some heavy and with the chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms. The showers will ease and become more isolated later in the day.

Highest temperatures today will be 8° to 11° in moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds, strong at times for western and northern coasts, moderating later.

It will be mostly dry tonight with clear spells and isolated showers at first. Cloud will build from the west through the night with patchy rain and drizzle moving into western and southwestern parts by morning. Lowest temperatures will be 1° to 5° in mostly light southwesterly breezes.

There will be some bright or sunny spells in the east at first tomorrow (Saturday, March 29), but otherwise cloudy with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, particularly in the southwest and west in the morning.

The rain and drizzle will turn lighter and patchier as it spreads eastwards across the country along with some mist, hill and coastal fog.

A clearance to drier and brighter weather will develop in the northwest in the early afternoon tomorrow, extending southeastwards through the rest of the day. Highest temperatures will be 11° to 15° with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds developing.

Tomorrow night will be largely dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures will be 5° to 8° with moderate to fresh westerly winds, easing light to moderate by morning.

Sunday (March 30) is expected to be largely dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells with just a few light showers, and highest temperatures of 12° to 16° in light to moderate westerly winds.

Sunday night will turn mostly cloudy. It will remain dry for most areas though, with just a few light showers, mainly in the northwest. Lowest temperatures will be 5° to 9° in light southwesterly breezes with mist and fog patches developing.
