Weather: Some dry spells but showers at times also this week

The weather this week will often be dry and bright, though there will be showers at times as well, according to Met Éireann.

It will be a blustery day today (Monday, February 24) with scattered showers and good spells of sunshine at first. More widespread heavy showers will spread from the west through the afternoon. Some showers will be of hail with scattered thunderstorms.

Showers will become more scattered this evening. Highest temperatures will be 9° to 12° in moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds.

Tonight, scattered showers will continue, most frequent and heavy at times in the west and north with a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms. There will be longer dry and clear intervals further east and south.

Lowest temperatures tonight will be 1° to 4° in moderate to fresh westerly winds.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, February 25) will be another day of sunny and showery weather. The showers will be mainly confined to the western half of the country in the morning but they will spread further eastwards through the day, some turning heavy with a chance of hail.

Highest temperatures will be 7° to 10° in moderate westerly winds.

It will turn cloudy overnight tomorrow, with showery rain spreading from the west, heavy in some spots with the chance of hail. The rain will clear into the Irish Sea in the early hours of the following morning.

Lowest temperatures over tomorrow night should be 1° to 4° in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

There will be a mix of sunny weather and scattered showers on Wednesday (February 26) with showers easing in the evening. It will turn quite breezy, with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds developing. Highest temperatures will be 6° to 9°.

Wednesday night will be cold and largely dry, with clear spells, though isolated showers will continue in parts of the west and north. Westerly winds will ease to light to moderate, with lowest temperatures of -1° to +3°.

Friday (February 28) will start off with generally dry weather, with spells of sunshine and just isolated showers. However, cloud will increase through the afternoon with rain possible near western coasts by evening.

Highest temperatures on Friday are expected to be 7° to 10°, with moderate southerly winds freshening through the day.

Met Éireann said that current indications suggest that there will be further spells of rain over the weekend, though with the chance of some drier intervals on Sunday.
