Started in 2022 as an idea from some local farmers and agricultural contractors to give something back to the community and people going without for Christmas, Trim light parade has captured the imagination of adults and children alike, and will take place this year on Saturday, December 21.
The charity light parade in Co. Meath will gather from 4:30p.m at Oaktree business park , leaving at 6:00p.m sharp.
Travelling along the ring road, the convoy will enter the town onto Castle Street, Market Street and Emmet Street, aiming to be in the town centre between 6:15 and 6:30p.m.
The event involves different vehicles including tractors, cars, firetrucks, all festooned with Christmas lights and decorations.
“It should be a great night for people in Trim and surrounds, especially young children. All vehicles are welcome. Lights are essential, with fancy dress preferred.
“Safety is paramount. The registration fee is €20:00 or a donation. Donations can also be made on our “iDonate ” page,” said Sean Roche of the organising committee.
The funds raised will go towards local Trim charities including: Trim Special Olympics, So Sad, Meath Hospice, Friends of St. Joseph’s and the cardiac unit at Crumlin children’s hospital.
“We ran our first Christmas light parade in 2022 and had a great success, with over 80 vehicles, raising over €8,000 for local charities.
“With only 10 members involved in our small committee, we rely on help from our neighbours and friends to marshal the event and help out on the day.
“The light parade itself is a big hit with the more urban dwellers in Trim and is eagerly anticipated by all the local children, Sean said.
“We hope to have Trim brass band and some carol singers on the night to create a festive atmosphere,” Roche said.
