Tragedy struck at a mushroom processing plant in Co. Monaghan last night, September 13, as one man died and two more were hospitalised following an accident.
Emergency services received a call at approximately 8:00pm last night and they made their way to a mushroom processing plant at Cornacrieve, Emyvale in Co. Monaghan.
On arrival, emergency services found three men unconscious in a silo at the plant, An Garda Siochan confirmed.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene and two others have been removed to Cavan General Hospital, the Gardai added.
A post-mortem examination will take place today, September 14.
The area is sealed off pending a technical examination by Garda Crime Scene Examiners. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and are expected at the scene this morning.
Cyclist killed following collision with a tractor
A female cyclist in Co. Cork was killed following a collision with a tractor yesterday afternoon (September 13), according to the Gardai.
Gardai confirmed that they are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a tractor and a female cyclist on the N28, the road connecting Cork city to Ringaskiddy.
The collision is believed to have occurred at approximately 1:00pm yesterday.
The female cyclist, understood to be in her 60s, suffered fatal injuries when she was involved in the collision with a tractor, the Gardai confirmed. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.
The body of the woman was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place.
