Target Fertilisers is a family run-business with manufacturing facilities at the Port of Waterford (Belview), Caim, Co. Wexford and in Rath, Co. Offaly.

The business is among the leading wholesalers of fertiliser in Ireland, offering high-quality products designed to optimise production for today’s farmers and growers.

“We know we can’t stand still, that’s why Target Fertilisers takes a forward-thinking approach when it comes to assessing and reacting to local, European and global market conditions,” Walter Furlong Jr, general manager of Target Fertilisers, said.

The company’s goal is to help customers optimise profit by the use of fertiliser to achieve high yields and quality output in an environmentally sustainable manner, while also forming solid relationships with our wholesalers and customers.

“We're always looking for new ways to instil quality into our products,” Walter said.

“And thanks to the blending facility at our Belview depot, we can tailor-make products in accordance with what our customers need.

"Target Fertilisers work with farmers to develop specific and customised blends to suit individual soil requirements,” he added.

Walter said that the farmer needs to purchase a product that matches what the farm needs, whether that is by buying simple materials or complex compound fertiliser (CCF).

“Due to restrictions on phosphorus on farms now, water solubility - a measure of how available phosphorus is, once spread - should be a key factor for farmers to consider when purchasing their fertiliser, ensuring that it is as high as it can be," he added.

Target Fertilisers has an extensive range of high-quality products, with over 160 blends and compounds available. All of its products are granular, meeting strict quality controls on chemical analysis, moisture content, granule size, hardness, and density.

“When it comes to innovation, given how environmental regulations have changed in recent times, our ears are always to the ground in terms of what's new and what can be added to our product range to help farmers achieve their goals,” Walter explained.

Through the availability of protected urea, grassland, tillage and specialist products, Target Fertilisers boasts a portfolio which is tailored to meet the myriad requirements of modern Irish farmers.

Promoting sustainability is of paramount importance to Target Fertilisers.

With this in mind, Target launched its Target Max (Protected Urea), which is easily incorporated into a farmer’s existing programme, creating greater flexibility and a more efficient use of resources.

Additionally, Target Fertilisers demonstrated its commitment to greater sustainability by developing Terra, the award-winning solution created in collaboration with Kerry-based Brandon Bioscience.

Containing PSI-362, a biostimulant extracted from seaweed, Terra delivers improved nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), stimulating both nitrogen uptake and utilisation within the plant.

Target Fertilisers also prides itself in producing dust-free fertiliser granular products for farmers and growers to achieve optimum results.

Given Ireland’s climatic suitability to maximise grass growth, great care is given to what is required to maximise grass yield during the growing season.

On the specialist fertiliser front, Target Fertilisers provides market leading products to its customers thanks to its phosphate and potassium, beet and potato compounds, along with calcium and magnesium soil conditioners.

The company’s commitment to Irish tillage farmers and growers can be seen through its extensive range of tillage-appropriate fertilisers. Target Fertilisers’ goal is to assist customers in achieving their target yields and high-quality outputs and thanks to its dust-free granules, customers are assured of both a clean and accurate application.

“As one of the most dynamic companies in our field, Target Fertilisers continues to invest and remains wholly committed to Ireland’s progressive and ambitious agricultural sector,” Walter said.

The Target Fertilisers team is available to provide technical advice and product recommendations via your local merchant or co-op when it comes to crop yields and fertiliser planning for both catch and potato crops. A comprehensive and efficient service to all customers nationwide is paramount at Target Fertilisers.
