John Deere is introducing its model year 2027 (MY27) updates for its 6R, 6M and 8R ranges, with efficiency being heavily prioritised.

Following on from its MY27 updates announcement for their T5, T6, S7 and X9 combines, John Deere today (Monday, June 8) released details on the tractors’ refresh.

6R upgrades

Specifically, four of the 6R Large frames (6R 180, 6R 200, 6R 220, 6R 240) and two of the 6R Xtra Large frames (6R 230, 6R 260) are the models from the 6R family that are being refreshed.

The 6R 260 is capable of up to 305hp with the company’s Intelligent Power Management (IPM) software and hardware.

According to John Deere, it is focused on improving “road transport performance, operator environment, precision farming capability and long-term operating efficiency.

“The new 6R road transport performance has been further improved with the Sport Package Pro, combining chassis, steering and braking updates to improve stability, ride quality and steering precision on- and offroad.

“Central to this package is the updated TLS Pro front axle suspension that combines adaptive, adjustable damping and suspension with automotive-grade components and reinforced suspension cylinders”.

According to John Deere, the system continuously adapts to speed, load and surface conditions and is calibrated to each frame size.

The manufacturer also says that the aforementioned system operates fully automatically or can be adjusted via custom mode to suit operator preferences and ballast configuration.

6M upgrades

John Deere is featuring the new e19 transmission in the 6M series, which has 19 fully powershifted gears, which the manufacturer stated are designed to deliver “efficient performance in both field and transport applications”.

Built on the company’s PowrQuad technology, John Deere said the e19 integrates a “dual-clutch design and advanced proportional
control valves to ensure smooth, uninterrupted gear changes and a more dynamic driving experience”.

The e19 has a management system for the engine and transmission that “continuously adapts gear selection and shifting
behaviour based on multiple tractor inputs, supporting efficient operation and fast gear changes with no torque interruption under varying load conditions”.

This system is supposed to allow for clutch-free operation similar to a stepless transmission.

John Deere said its inclination sensor adds terrain awareness to gear selection, making gear changes faster and more predictive.

According to the manufacture, its ‘Skip Shift’ technology jumps multiple gears for rapid speed changes, while its ‘Scroll Shift’ keeps clutches partially engaged for “even faster transitions, reduced heat, and less wear”.

When compared to the CommandQuad Plus transmission, the e19 is claimed to deliver “up to 5% productivity improvements, with up to 5% reduced fuel consumption”.

“Operators can choose between pedal or joystick control and change seamlessly from one to the other”.

When in automatic mode, the system picks “the appropriate gear and engine speed to balance performance, fuel efficiency, and operator comfort”.

At transport speeds up to 50km/h, engine speed is reduced to 1,620rpm.

The new e19 transmission reportedly features 100% mechanical gear trains, which John Deere said are engineered to reduce heat load and wear over long duty cycles.

The transmission can be operated via the traditional control lever, the Compact CommandARM, or the new CommandX Plus joystick, offering flexible control options depending on operator reference.

According to John Deere, the e19 transmission will be available on most 6-cylinder models up to the 6M 250.

The updated 6M models support iTEC headland management, automating repeatable sequences such as power take-off (PTO) engagement, hitch movement, hydraulic functions, travel speed and gear selection based on distance.

With the farming giants’ Work Planner, work plans created in the John Deere Operations Center can be transferred wirelessly to the tractor.

These include guidance lines, application maps, work instructions and implement settings that load automatically when entering
the field.

This reduces setup steps and potential input errors that John Deere claims is “enabling operators to cover up to 9% more area per hour”.

8R upgrades

John Deere has said that it designed the MY27 8R range to deliver “higher productivity, greater efficiency and improved ease of operation in the 280–410 hp segment”.

John Deere are claiming that they can utilise “up to 20% more drawbar power” with the 8R 410.

This means it can deliver strong pulling performance for heavy draft applications, which the company is saying is allowing operators to work with wider implements and cover more hectares efficiently.

According to John Deere, the 9L PowerTech JD9 engine combined with a selection of transmission options converts engine output into “efficient, usable traction”.

ITclaims this gives growing farms the pulling capacity needed to “take on more acreage with an 8R tractor”, without the immediate need to add another machine.

The 8 series has “better” weight distribution, and will not need extra counterweights when doing jobs with machinery that has uneven distribution, the company said.

This combined with the Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS) or four-track 8RX configuration minimises ground pressure, helping to protect soil structure and yield potential.

The 8R series has access to IPM technology, maximising efficiency by ensuring the tractor only delivers the power required for each job.

The 8 series tractor is designed as a “versatile all-rounder for large farms, delivering strong performance in heavy draft work, PTO applications and transport,” John Deere said.

The company claims the eAutoPowr transmission provides smooth, stepless acceleration and enables 50km/h transport at a low 1,150rpm level, improving fuel efficiency and comfort.

At low speeds (up to 5km/h), the drivetrain operates fully electrically, “offering precise control and maximum torque” for demanding work such as silage pushing or heavy PTO operation.

John Deere said that the new 8 range has a 5.7m turning radius, which will allow for less headland passes.

In terms of maintenance, daily service checks can be performed from ground level, as there is clear access to key service points.

Fluid-level and air-restriction sensors can provide maintenance alerts on the G5 plus display in the cab.

Similarly to the 6M, the next generation of the 8R model can come with up to 2,000 remote diagnostic points, meaning potential faster fault identification and service response.

According to Marcus Luchmann, product manager at John Deere, said: “The new 8 series is designed to deliver tangible benefits in everyday farm operations.

“From increased usable power in the 8R high-horsepower models for demanding cultivation work to high efficiency in partial-load applications such as seeding with the 8R 410 eAutoPowr, the range is built for consistent performance.

“These tractors help large farms operate more efficiently, expand acreage without adding machines, and manage existing land with greater precision,” Luchmann added.
