Grass
The average farm measuring grass through PastureBase Ireland recorded a yield of 9t/ha of dry matter so far this year.
Dairy
The inclement weather of late is having an adverse effect on grazing conditions and grass growth on many farms.
Last year, Irish dairy farms grew 650kg more grass compared to 2016. Over the duration of 2017, the average dairy farm grew 14.4t of grass.
2017 has been quite a good year for grass growth, according to Teagasc's Micheal O'Leary.
Up to 60% of the grass grazed on Irish farms in spring 2017 will be grown by December 1, Teagasc's Micheal O'Leary has said.
