Status Yellow wind warnings issued for many counties

Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow wind warnings for a number of counties from tomorrow (Friday, February 21) morning.

The wind warnings will be in place for counties Cork and Kerry from 4:00a.m until 8:00a.m, with very strong and gusty southerly winds expected.

The same warning will begin for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, and Waterford at 6:00a.m, remaining in place until 10:00a.m.

Potential impacts for these counties will include some fallen trees or branches, difficult travelling conditions, debris, and the possibility of loose objects becoming displaced, according to the national forecaster.

Status Yellow wind warnings have also been issued by the UK Met Office Weather Warning for counties Antrim, Armagh, and Down. The warning is expected from 6:00a.m until 10:00a.m.

Strong and gusty southerly winds may cause disruption to transport and infrastructure during this time, according to the met office.

There will also be a Status Yellow gale warning for all coasts of Ireland and on the Irish Sea from 9:00p.m tonight (Thursday, February 20) until midday on Friday.

For counties without wind warnings, the early start to today will be blustery with scattered heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy at first, but sunny spells will gradually extend from the west through the morning.

Mainly dry weather is expected by evening as the showers become isolated, with highest temperatures of 11° to 14°.

It will become wet and windy tonight, as rain extends northwards over the country and fresh to strong southerly winds develop. There will be some heavy falls of rain at times, possibly causing spot flooding.

Tomorrow, there will be further widespread rain with localised flooding possible. Again, the rain will clear eastwards later in the day.

It will have mostly moderate to fresh southwest winds with highest daytime temperatures of 9 to 13°.
