Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for one county, which will see a risk of coastal flooding.

The warning for Co. Cork will come into effect at 9:00pm tonight (Tuesday, December 15) and will remain in force until 9:00am tomorrow morning.

The warning was issued at 9:00am this morning.

Met Éireann says that, due to high seas and strong onshore winds, there is a risk of coastal flooding tonight and on Wednesday.

Gale force southeast winds will veer southwest, gusting 90kph to 110kph generally, and higher in exposed areas.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow wind warning has been expanded to include all of Leinster.

This warning now includes Leinster and counties Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

The warning will also be in place from 9:00pm tonight to 9:00am tomorrow morning, and was issued at 9:00am this morning.

In these counties, it will become very windy tonight and tomorrow morning. The affected areas will see strong and gusty southeast winds, veering southwest with gusts up to 100kph.

Due to high seas and strong onshore winds, there is also an elevated risk of coastal flooding in these counties.

It will be wet and windy across the country in general tonight, with a low pressure system moving up from the south, bringing strong and gusty winds with gales on southern and eastern coasts, along with heavy rainfall throughout the country, bringing a risk of coastal and surface flooding.

Tomorrow will be wet and windy to begin. Strong and gusty mainly southerly winds will veer southwesterly during the afternoon and gradually ease.
