Some cloud, showers and unsettled weather this weekend

After a fine week, the weekend will see somewhat of a return to unsettled weather, especially later in the weekend, and then into next week, before more settled conditions make a return, according to Met Éireann.

Today (Friday, May 9) will be largely dry with long spells of sunshine today. Some patchy cloud will develop through the day bringing the chance of a few showers, mainly in the west and south-west.

Highest temperatures will be 16° to 20° generally, a little cooler near some coasts in a light southerly or variable breeze.

It will be dry and clear for most tonight, though a little cloudier in parts of the west and south-west, with the chance of the odd light shower continuing.

Lowest temperatures tonight are expected to be 2° to 9°, coolest in the south-east, in light southerly or variable breezes with some areas of fog developing.

Any fog will clear tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 10) to leave mostly dry weather with spells of sunshine, though with some cloud building and with showers developing, most likely for Atlantic coastal counties.

Highest temperatures will be 16° to 20° or 21° in a light, occasionally moderate, southerly or variable breeze.

Saturday night will be largely dry and clear with just the odd light shower possible early in the night. Lowest temperatures will be 4° to 9° in light variable breezes, possibly more moderate near some coasts. Some areas of fog will develop.

Met Éireann said that there is some uncertainty in the details for weather on Sunday (May 11), but indications are that it will be mostly dry and sunny at first before showers or showery outbreaks of rain develop through the day with some possibly heavier later in the day. Highest temperatures are expected to be 15° to 20° with a light to moderate northerly wind developing.

Sunday night will be a mild night with further showers or showery outbreaks of rain. Temperatures will not fall below 7° to 11° in moderate north-easterly winds, fresh near some coasts.

On Monday (May 12), showers or showery outbreaks of rain are likely to continue through much of the day. Some heavy or thundery falls are possible. It will be generally driest, sunniest and warmest in the north.

Highest temperatures will be 16° to 21° in a mostly moderate easterly wind. The rain and showers will ease overnight, with most places becoming dry. Temperatures will not fall below 7° to 11° on Monday night.

Met Éireann indicated that the second half of next week will be largely dry and settled with just a few showers, and temperatures generally reaching the high teens to low 20s.
