The heavy showers experienced over the weekend are set to continue for the early part of this week, according to Met Eireann.
This morning is expected to begin with scattered showers in the west and north, but the east and south is forecast to be dry at first with some good sunny spells.
As the day progresses into the afternoon, showers are likely to become widespread. Some showers are likely to turn heavy with a risk of thunder – especially over the northern half of the country.
Temperatures are set to reach between 15º and 19º in mostly moderate southwest breezes. However, winds will increase to fresh and gusty near coasts and in and around showers.
Showers are forecast to become isolated and then confined to the west coast overnight. Temperatures will drop to around 10º and winds will be light to moderate from a southwesterly direction.
Meanwhile, conditions for spraying will be generally poor due to blustery and breezy conditions, according to Met Eireann.
Tomorrow
Showers will be more prevalent over the north and west of the country on Tuesday; the south and east will enjoy the best of the sunshine.
On Tuesday night a spell of rain will develop – first in the southwest, then in the south; it will push further north overnight. Temperatures may drop to around 10º.
Wednesday
A spell of persistent rain in the south and east is likely to arise on Wednesday, due to a shift in wind direction, Met Eireann added.
There is a risk that rain could turn heavy at times during the morning, before slowly clearing later in the day.
Ongoing sunshine and showery conditions are set to continue in other parts of the country on Wednesday.
The south of the country will enjoy the best of the temperatures as figures reach in excess of 20º; values will drop by about 5º in other parts of the country.
Outlook
There’ll be spells of sunshine and showers on Thursday morning; the showers are expected to clear later in the afternoon. Temperatures will generally be in the high teens, according to Met Eireann.
Early indications suggest that both Friday and next weekend will remain unsettled, with spells of rain or showers likely at times.
