A record 4,100 plus secondary school agricultural science students have attended the latest Agri Aware farm walk and talk events across the country.
Agri Aware is an independent farming and agri-food educational body which it states is "dedicated to improving the image and understanding of agriculture, farming, and the food industry among the public."
The 2025 series, between February 26 and March 20, consisted of 15 events across 11 venues in an array of locations, including Teagasc Agricultural Colleges and Research Centres, University College Dublin (UCD)'s Lyon's estate, and a commercial dairy farm in Donegal, hosted by farmer Jack Porter.
Over the course of three weeks, students benefitted from hands-on experiences such as lambing demonstrations, milking and soil profile examinations, as well as expert talks from various agri-food industry parties and academics in a practical environment.
The educational talks covered a wide range of topics within the agriculture science curriculum, including beef, dairy, sheep production, soil health, farm safety, and modern milking facilities.
Speaking after the conclusion of the 2025 series, Agri Aware executive director, Marcus O’Halloran said: "Agri Aware’s farm walk & talk series has grown significantly, and we were thrilled that we welcomed a record number of students this year.
"We could not carry out events like this without the support of our series partners, who opened their exceptional facilities to provide students with the invaluable opportunity to visit working farms and hear from industry experts about key topics in agricultural science.
"We look forward to bringing students back next year once again.”
