A new mobile phone app has been developed to allow farmers to bid for cattle in marts anonymously.

The new technology was launched by its developers Newline ASP this week in Mid-Tipp Mart with four animals purchased using the system during its first run.

By registering with the mart and downloading the free Auctioneer app from the App or Play stores, buyers can bid anonymously from their iPhone or Smartphone while in the environs of the mart sales ring.

According to Lorcán O’Toole, Regional Sales Account Manager with Newline ASP the development of the app has come on the back of increased interest in such a service from marts across the country.

Some of the marts asked us if such a service was possible and we set to work developing the technology.

“The idea is that farmers can sit back and bid on animals anonymously and nobody would know that they were bidding,” he said.

How it works

Farmers download the app and register with the mart. They then can bid instantaneously on animals in the sales ring over the marts WIFI connection.

The bid flashes up on a screen beside the auctioneer and another screen will also show those in the mart that there has been a bid made online.

Newline ASP is a supplier of auction software to the livestock market industry in the UK, New Zealand and a major provider in Ireland.
