The latest weather forecast for the week ahead from Met Éireann details that it will be “mostly dry and settled at first” but is expected to become more unsettled as the weekend approaches.
Today (Monday, September 30) will start mostly cloudy with some spells of rain and drizzle spreading from the northwest but it is then expected to become “drier and brighter” in the southeast with possible sunny spells.
Any cloud and rain will be largely located in Ulster and north Leinster with other parts of the country likely to see a mix of sunshine and scattered showers elsewhere.
“Much of the country will become dry in the evening. Highest temperatures of 11° to 16° in moderate to fresh northwest winds,” the national metrological service said.
Tonight is also expected to be mainly dry with clear spells. But there is the possibility of showers in Leinster. Overall there will be minimum temperatures of 6° to 9° in moderate northerly winds.
Met Éireann
Last week was cooler than normal with mean air temperatures ranging from 9.7° – recorded at both Knock/Ireland West Airport, Co. Mayo and Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan – to 12.7° – recorded at Roche’s Point, Co. Cork- which is between 0.5° and 2.5° below the average for the time of year.
According to Met Éireann over the coming week, mean air temperatures will generally range between 11° and 14° which is 1° or 2° milder than normal.
“Mean soil temperatures will be mainly above normal,” it added.
Sunshine amounts were also below average for most counties last week with the sunniest conditions in the north and northwest.
“There will be good sunny spells at times midweek but overall sunshine amounts over the coming week will likely be below normal,” the national metrological service outlined.
Drying conditions will be poor today but then are expected to be “moderate to good” for midweek before deteriorating as the weekend draws near.
Spraying conditions will be best during midweek.
Weather outlook
Tuesday (October, 1) is expected to be largely dry with plenty of sunshine and just a few isolated light showers. Top temperatures during the day will range from 13° to 16° in moderate northerly winds according to Met Éireann, falling to lowest temperatures of between 4° to 8° at night.
Wednesday (October 2) will bring a bright and mostly dry day with lots of sunshine and just scattered cloud. It is expected that highest temperatures could be in the region of 13° to 16°. It will also be dry and mostly clear on Wednesday night with temperatures ranging from 6° to 9° with light easterly breezes.
Thursday (October 3) is currently forecast by Met Éireann to a generally dry day with with a “mix of cloud and sunny spells”. But showers could be likely in the southwest of the country later in the day. Temperatures will likely be around 13° to 16°generally. Thursday night is likely to see a few light showers in the south and west but mostly dry in other parts of the country with lowest temperatures of between 9° to 12° expected.
Friday (October 4) According to the national metrological service it will be “breezy on Friday with plenty of cloud and rain” likely to develop in the south and west by evening time. Maximum temperatures will be between 14° to 17° in fresh and gusty southerly winds.
