The national meteorological service said that rainfall amounts over the next seven days are expected to be above normal in the northwest and north, and below average elsewhere. The south and east will be the driest areas.

As it turns cooler this week, air temperatures a degree or two below average, mean values of 11° to 14° are forecast.

Soil temperatures are currently higher than normal, between 13.8° to 16.1°.

There will be good to moderate drying conditions in most areas this week, due to low amounts of rain and breezy conditions at times. However, the cooler temperatures will impact drying.

The poorest drying conditions will be in the northwest and north because of rain and showers.

Some good opportunities for spraying are expected this week, particularly away from the northwest and north as rainfall will be below normal. However, it will be breezy at times.

Soil moisture deficits (SMDs) are currently between 10 and 55mm, with the driest soils in Leinster.

During the coming week, soils in parts of the west, midlands and north are expected to be saturated or waterlogged, and also poorly drained soils in the southwest. There will be less of a change in other areas of the country.
