Macra has recorded a total income of €2,751,097 in 2024, with a total surplus of €19,214 also recorded.

In 2023, the young farmers organisation recorded a deficit of €401,384.

Macra CEO, Mick Curran explained that his priority in 2024 was to put the organisation on a "sound financial footing" after it recorded "considerable" losses in 2023.

He said: "Having spent the last 12 months working with our volunteer and staff teams, we are happy to report to our membership that we have turned around our financial fortune.

"For 2024, we report a small surplus with a larger surplus on the horizon for 2025.

"This turnaround was not easy, it required hard decisions that our board were able to make. Some of the decisions were not visible to the broader membership, others were such as the pausing the 2024 leadership awards," Curran added.

As part of it's strategic plan for 2023-2027, Macra has committed to increasing active membership throughout the country, including in those areas where the membership has been "low historically".

The organisation also wants to engage with it's membership to develop relevant activities that reflect the interests of it's members.

New Macra president, Josephine O'Neill, who was the chair of the Macra board in 2024 believes there is still "considerable scope" for improvement.

She said: "Our clubs, counties and regions are once again a hive of activity, providing unique opportunities to each and every member within our organisation.

"Each one of these events, meetings, competitions and festivals is a testament to every person within our organisation who have worked tirelessly, dedicating their time and energy to growing and developing Macra.

"I would like to thank the members of the various sub-committees who have contributed their knowledge and expertise for the betterment of our organisation," O'Neill added.

Currently, Macra has almost 140 clubs spread across the Republic of Ireland.
