It took 867 lambs for Donegal man Ivan Scott to set a new world record this weekend, but it all came down to one lamb!
Scott managed to shear 867 lambs in just nine hours broke the record by just one lamb, taking it from New Zealander Dion King who held the record since 2007.
In so doing, Scott became the first shearer from the northern hemisphere to set the record for the number of lambs shorn.
His total of 867 lambs works out at 96.33 lambs an hour, or one ever 37.37 seconds.
The Donegal man, who is no stranger to sheep shearing records, pulled off the record attempt in England this weekend, at an event which also saw a new world record in sheep shearing set by Matt Smith of New Zealand after he sheared 731 sheep in nine hours.
Smith broke the previous nine-hour sheep shearing record of 721 which was set by Rodney Sutton in 2007.
In Scott’s lamb shearing competition, each lamb must have at least 3kg of wool.
The Donegal man has already won nine All-Ireland Championships, including when he beat the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to shear a sheep on the opening episode of RTÒs Big Week on the Farm in April this year.
