Info evening to outline supports available for Dublin farmers

The Dublin Rural LEADER programme is hosting an information evening on the supports available to farmers through the LEADER programme as well as Teagasc’s training programmes.

The event will take place on Tuesday, April 29, at 7:00p.m at the Clayton Hotel beside Dublin Airport.

It is an opportunity for farmers to share their thoughts on what supports, such as training and marketing, would be most beneficial on their farm.

Participants can expect an overview of the LEADER programme, and its relevance to the farming sector.

The event will also explore diversification and funding opportunities for farmers, and facilitate an open discussion on what changes would have the biggest impact for the sector.

Dublin Rural LEADER provides funding to enterprises and community groups throughout the rural areas of the three county councils, Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown, Fingal, and South Dublin.

Projects are selected by the Local Action Group (LAG). The Dublin LAG consists of local representatives across the three local authority areas from both the public and private sector.

The LAG has the overall responsibility for the delivery of the Rural LEADER programme.

Fingal LEADER Partnership CLG is the overall implementing partner and first point of contact for information and enquiries about the programme, and Fingal County Council is the financial partner.

Senator Victor Boyhan, a member of the agricultural panel in Seanad Éireann, has praised the work that Dublin Rural LEADER undertakes and has thanked Teagasc for its collaboration with and support in developing new opportunities for Dublin rural farmers.

He said: “I would encourage Dublin farmers to sign up the forthcoming event. Seats will definitely be in demand. You can book a place on Eventbrite."

In other news, last week (April 8), Senator Boyhan urged rural community groups to apply for the Community Safety Fund 2025, which has been announced by Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan.

The annual fund allows for the proceeds of crime, seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) and An Garda Síochána, to be directed into local projects to support and enhance community safety.

This year, €4 million is available, which is double the original allocation of €2 million when the fund first opened for applications in 2022, and grants range from €20,000 to €150,000.
