Gardaí investigating collision involving tractor and bicycle

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations are ongoing into a collision that involved a tractor and a bicycle in Co. Kilkenny.

Both gardaí and emergency services responded to the road traffic collision in Gathabawn, Co. Kilkenny, which took place last Friday afternoon (June 20).

Gardaí have described the cyclist as "a female juvenile" and said that she had to be transferred from the scene of the collision to Children's Health Ireland (CHI) at Temple Street, Dublin.

It has been confirmed that the cyclist was treated for "serious injuries" but these are not believed to be life-threatening.

"No other injuries were reported," gardai stated.

A technical examination of the scene of the collision in Gathabawn has since been conducted.

Separately Gardaí in Co. Clare had appealed for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a tractor last Saturday (June 21).

Gardaí and emergency services had responded to the collision, that occurred shortly after 10:15a.m on the L7006 at Kilmurry, Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare.

The pedestrian, a middle aged man in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His remains were subsequently taken to University Hospital Limerick.

According to a Garda spokesperson, the coroner was informed, and a post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place.

A technical examination was also carried out at the scene of the collision by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Latest statistics show that 20 of the people who have died on Irish roads this year were pedestrians, 28 were the drivers of vehicles and seven were passengers.

Gardai have also noted that one person who was an e-scooter driver/passenger has died in 2025, while 14 motorcyclists were involved in fatal collisions.

According to the 2025 road policing fatalities to date eight cyclists have also died and one pillion passenger.
