Two people die in rural house fire in Galway

Gardaí in Co. Galway are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of two individuals following a fatal house fire in Casla, Co. Galway today, Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

At approximately 6:20a.m, gardaí and fire services were alerted to a house fire at Gleann Mhic Mhuireann.

According to gardaí, the fire was brought under control by fire services and the bodies of a woman aged in her 70s and a man in his 30s were recovered from inside the house.

A garda spokesperson said that the scene has been preserved for technical examination.

Both bodies have been transported to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway for post-mortem examinations.

The garda spokesperson said: "The results of the post mortems, along with the findings of the technical examination, will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

"The local coroner has been informed. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward," the spokesperson added.

In a separate incident, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, Gardaí confirmed that a woman died following a road traffic collision involving a tractor and a bicycle in Co. Clare.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene at Toonagh, Tulla following reports of the collision which occurred on the L3180 at approximately 12:45p.m.

The cyclist, a woman who was aged her 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Gardaí said that there were no other injuries reported at the time.

In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said that investigating officers are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 12:00p.m-1:00p.m today, Saturday, May 24, 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí," the spokesperson said.
