Gardaí have arrested three people following the discovery of two cannabis grow houses in rural Co. Galway.

As part of Operation Tara, gardaí conducted searches at two residential properties in the New Inn and Creggs areas yesterday (Wednesday, March 13).

During the planned operation cannabis grow houses were discovered at both locations, resulting in the seizure of cannabis plants worth €228,000, along with cannabis herb worth €75,000.

Two men aged in their 40s and 20s, and a woman in her 50s, were arrested during the operation.

All three are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a garda station in Co. Galway.

The operation involved members of the Garda Divisional Drug Unit, Galway County Drug Unit, the Garda Armed Support Unit, and local uniformed gardaí.

Operation Tara, which was launched in 2021, aims to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Separately, in other news from gardaí, an investigation is continuing into the theft of a vehicle in Termonfeckin, Co. Louth last week.

The vehicle is a grey Toyota Land Cruiser, which is believed to have been taken some time between 10.00p.m on Wednesday, March 6 and 5:00a.m Thursday, March 7.

The owners have also issued an appeal on Facebook for anyone with further information regarding the jeep to get in contact with them.
