Fairly settled start to March with occasional rain or drizzle

The first weekend of March will see a fairly settled start, with some occasional rain or drizzle, mainly in parts of the west and north, according to Met Éireann.

Today (Friday, February 28), will see a cold start, with frost, ice, mist and any fog clearing through the morning. It will be a largely dry day with just isolated showers and plenty of sunshine, which will turn hazy through the afternoon as cloud increases from the west.

Highest temperatures will be 7° to 11° with mostly light to moderate southerly winds.

After a dry start, outbreaks of rain will develop in the northwest and will extend across much of Ulster, Connacht and northwest Munster overnight.

It will remain drier elsewhere with clear spells. Lowest temperatures overnight will be -1° to +5° in light to moderate southerly winds. Some frost will develop under clear skies away from the north and west.

The rain will continue moving southeastwards across the rest of the country tomorrow morning (Saturday, March 1), becoming lighter and patchy as it does so, and will be followed by drier and brighter weather spreading from the northwest.

Highest temperatures tomorrow will be 7° to 11° in light westerly or variable winds.

Tomorrow night will be dry with some clear spells, and patches of mist and fog will develop in light variable winds. Some frost and icy patches will also form with lowest temperatures of -1° to +4° degrees.

Mist and fog will gradually clear on Sunday morning (March 2), leaving a generally dry day with some sunny spells and just the chance of isolated showers. Highest temperatures will be 9° to 11° with light to moderate southwest winds, fresh at times near Atlantic coasts.

It will become cloudier on Sunday night, with some patchy light rain or drizzle developing in the west and north. Temperatures will fall to between 1° and 5° in the south, and not falling below 5° to 8° elsewhere, in light to moderate southwest winds.
