Coillte is reminding students interested in a career in forestry that the deadline is approaching for its 2025 Forestry Scholarship Award programme.
The scholarship is open to Leaving Certificate or mature students planning to enrol in one of the eligible forestry third level undergraduate courses.
The closing date for the submission of applications for the scholarships, which will be awarded in the autumn, is Friday, May 2, 2025.
The award will be up to €5,000 per year, with each student receiving the support annually for the duration of their degree once the scholarship has been awarded.
If the course is a four-year course, the total award per student will be up to €20,000 and if the course is a three-year course, the total award will be up to €15,000.
Coillte said that the payment will be made in instalments in line with the college term fees.
The scholarship provides financial and career support for those pursuing a full-time, third level forestry programme at University College Dublin (UCD) or South East Technological University (SETU).
Alongside the financial contribution, recipients of this scholarship will also benefit from paid summer placements and potential career opportunities with Coillte.
This work placement will provide award recipients with supportive practical experience to compliment their academic studies.
The inaugural Forestry Scholarship Award programme saw scholarships being awarded to three students.
Alex Power, who was among the inaugural scholars, said "receiving the Coillte scholarship has opened doors for me".
"It’s not just the financial support—it’s being part of a sector that plays such an important role in tackling climate change and supporting rural communities," Alex added.
