There has been a change in the date and time for the dairy clearance sale in Corrin Mart, Fermoy, Co. Cork that was due to take place on Friday (January 24).

The dairy sale will now take place tomorrow (Thursday, January 23) at 4:00p.m at Corrin Mart.

The date and time has changed due to the Met Éireann Status Red warning for wind for a number of counties as Storm Éowyn approaches.

According to the latest update from Met Éireann, a Status Red wind warning for Cork, Kerry and Limerick will be in place from 2:00a.m until 10:00a.m on Friday.

Skibbereen Mart's sale has also seen a change in time due to the weather warning and will now go ahead on Friday, January 24 at the later time of 2:00pm and intakes will be open at 11:00am.

With recent warnings coming from Met Éireann, most farm events and mart sales across the country will more than likely be cancelled and postponed.

The complete dairy clearance sale in Corrin Mart this Thursday on behalf of John Condon, Cullane, Ballylanders, Co. Limerick consists of 50 head of British Friesian type young cows.

Agriland spoke with mart manager Seán Leahy who expressed his concern over the storm and said "we can't take any risks, it would not be fair on the farmer and the buyers".

Leahy added that "with dairy stock, you can't wait around and the farmer needs them gone this week so we have decided to push the sale forward".

"If we went for Saturday, you don't know what you'd be dealing with after the storm. There could be power cuts or anything and we can't take that risk with these cows," he said.

The mart manager told Agriland that, considering it is so close to calving, the cows need to be sold as quickly as possible and that the farmer can't hold onto them for another week.

Farmers should keep an eye out for more cancellations of mart sales and events over the coming days as a Status Red wind warning for Clare and Galway will be valid from 3:00a.m to 12:00p.m on Friday.

A similar warning for Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo has been issued from 4:00a.m until 12:00p.m on Friday and for Donegal from 6:00a.m until 3:00p.m on Friday.

A Status Red wind warning for Cavan; Monaghan; Dublin; Kildare; Laois; Longford; Louth; Meath; Offaly; Westmeath; Wicklow; Roscommon and Tipperary will be in place from 6:00a.m until 12:00p.m on Friday.
