Certified Irish Angus has announced a new 30c/kg off-season bonus, which will be made available to its members this Autumn at ABP Food Group and Kepak sites.

The off-season bonus generally comes into play in the second quarter of the year and the move to introduce a 30c/kg breed bonus on eligible Angus cattle slaughtered between Monday, October 7, and Friday, November 15, will be seen as a positive development for farmers with Angus cattle to sell.

This off-season bonus is available on Angus animals grading from an O= to a U+ with a fat score ranging from 2+ or above and below a 4+.

The weight range for eligible steers and heifers is 260-380kg carcass weight and animals must be resident on the farm for a minimum of 90 days.

The closing date for online bookings for the breed bonus is Friday, September 20. The bonus will be paid in addition to the farm Quality Assurance (QA) bonus of 20c/kg.

To apply for the bonus, contact any of the ABP or Kepak factories directly or visit certifiedirishangus.ie.

To apply for the bonus, farmers can:

  • Make a booking on line through the Certified Irish Angus new farmer portal;
  • Download a booking form for completion and return;
  • WhatsApp the booking to 087 6046776.

Commenting on the announcement, general manager of Certified Irish Angus, Charles Smith said:

“We are delighted to announce details of this substantial bonus which is on offer to our members allowing them to maximise the return from their Angus cattle.

After a challenging year for beef farmers, the bonus will provide an opportunity for members, to offset some of the additional feed and fertiliser costs incurred through the production period of these animals.

“Our members have experienced big challenges in terms of weather and cost of inputs since the spring of 2022 and this bonus goes some way to offset this.

“This announcement is just one of a series of progressive initiatives offered by Certified Irish Angus to provide additional value for members.”

Members who have ICBF Herd Plus will also be provided with details of the terminal index of each animal as they make their online booking allowing them to assess the benefits of using superior Angus genetics.
