Boy dies in road traffic incident involving tractor in Kerry

A boy has died following a road traffic incident involving a tractor in Co. Kerry, An Garda Síochána has said.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal incident, involving the tractor and a pedestrian, at Beaufort between Killarney and Killorglin, yesterday evening (Monday, April 7).

The incident occurred at Beaufort Bridge, at around 7:30p.m.

The pedestrian, a male juvenile, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was removed to University Hospital Kerry where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course, gardaí said.

The male driver of the tractor (aged in his 20s) was uninjured.

The road has been closed for a technical examination by garda forensic collision investigators, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area of Beaufort Bridge, Co. Kerry, between 7:00p.m and 7.45p.m yesterday, to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Michael Gaine, who is also known as Mike, was reported missing from his home near Kenmare, on Friday, March 21.

The 56-year-old sheep and suckler farmer was last seen in Kenmare town, on Thursday, March 20.

Dan McCarthy, who is also an independent Kerry county councillor, told Agriland that there is a “cloud hanging over the community”.

"People are seriously concerned and worried for Mike’s welfare at this stage. Their thoughts and prayers are still with his wife, sisters and extended family for his safe return,"

“The amount of work that has been put into locating Mike is absolutely unreal,” he said.
