A week of scattered showers in store as mild conditions continue

Most parts of the country will be affected by scattered showers this week, with temperatures are expected to remain above normal, according to Met Eireann.

This morning, Monday, is set to be mostly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle in east Munster and Leinster.

Rain is also forecast to develop along the west coast, which will then spread eastwards to all areas through the day.

Showers could become heavy at times and are expected to reach the east coast by early this evening, as temperatures vary between 8 to 12 degrees in light south to southeast breezes.

The rain and damp conditions are forecast to continue over much of the country tonight, but it is set to gradually clear eastwards by dawn with temperatures falling no lower than 4 degrees overnight.

Over the past week, average temperatures were between 2 to 3 degrees above normal, with this trend set to continue over the next few days.

However, drying conditions will be poor for the coming days, while most fields are also expected to remain trafficable for the next several days.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning, Tuesday, is expected to remain mainly dry with some sunny spells.

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle are forecast along the south coast and are set to move up over Munster and south Leinster during the day.

Meanwhile, heavier rain is set to develop in the west in the early evening, as temperatures range from 10 to 12 degrees.

On Tuesday night, rain will spread eastwards across the country and will continue overnight, with temperatures of between 7 to 10 degrees expected.

Wednesday

Wednesday will start off cloudy with rain in many areas, according to Met Eireann.

This rain will gradually clear slowly eastwards, but the rain is forecast to linger in the east for much of the day.

By the afternoon it is expected to become cooler as the rain clears with afternoon temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. There is also a danger of frost developing in many areas on Wednesday night.

Thursday

Despite a mainly dry and sunny start to Thursday morning, rain is set develop in the west by midday and will spread slowly eastwards to all areas through the afternoon and evening.

On Thursday temperatures of between 7 to 11 degrees are forecast, while the rain is set to continue on Thursday night.

Friday

By Friday morning the rain is forecast to clear while the rest of the day is set to remain cold and mainly dry with sunny spells, but there is a possibility of a few showers in the west.

Temperatures will range between 5 to 8 degrees, as frost is also expected to develop on Friday night.

Meanwhile, next weekend is set to bring a mixture of dry weather and scattered showers, which will mainly affect the west and north of the country.
