Most parts of the country will be affected by scattered showers this week, with temperatures are expected to remain above normal, according to Met Eireann.

This morning, Monday, is set to be mostly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle in east Munster and Leinster.

Rain is also forecast to develop along the west coast, which will then spread eastwards to all areas through the day.

Showers could become heavy at times and are expected to reach the east coast by early this evening, as temperatures vary between 8 to 12 degrees in light south to southeast breezes.

The rain and damp conditions are forecast to continue over much of the country tonight, but it is set to gradually clear eastwards by dawn with temperatures falling no lower than 4 degrees overnight.

Over the past week, average temperatures were between 2 to 3 degrees above normal, with this trend set to continue over the next few days.

However, drying conditions will be poor for the coming days, while most fields are also expected to remain trafficable for the next several days.

On Tuesday night, rain will spread eastwards across the country and will continue overnight, with temperatures of between 7 to 10 degrees expected.

Wednesday

This rain will gradually clear slowly eastwards, but the rain is forecast to linger in the east for much of the day.

By the afternoon it is expected to become cooler as the rain clears with afternoon temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. There is also a danger of frost developing in many areas on Wednesday night.
